Affluenza

I am currently reading this book (if you're interested, don't forget considering to buy it used) which originated in this TV Show.
 
It is called Affluenza and deals with the mass consumption of our society and how we seek happiness in the wrong 'things'. The word is a mixture of affluence and influenza and indicates that our quest for consuming things has become a disease or even an addiction. Even though the show is from 1997 it is still as relevant as it was 15 years ago.

 I also found this Show from 2012 with John de Graaf (co writer of the book).
"Happiness science confirms that people are happier when they give rather than receive, when they are generous, when they share." 

The second part of the show deals with the history of consumerism and how it is linked to religion. And in the third part Mark Powley talks about how we can not escape consumerism. I also enjoyed the comments of the audience.
